Crew Missing After Houthi Attack Sinks Ship in Red Sea

❗️ A major rescue operation is ongoing in the Red Sea after the bulk carrier Eternity C was struck by Houthi forces and sank. The Liberian-flagged ship was attacked with missiles and a remote-controlled explosive boat, leaving it without power and fatally damaged. The news was published on the Maritime Executive website.
🛟 The vessel had 22 crew members on board (21 Filipinos and one Russian) as well as 3 to 4 private armed guards. Several crew reportedly jumped overboard after lifeboats were damaged. Some survivors spent over 24 hours adrift before rescue efforts reached them. As of now, at least seven have been recovered, four confirmed dead, and others remain missing.
The EU-led naval mission Aspides and private security contractors are coordinating search efforts. However, reports suggest the Houthis may have captured some survivors. Houthi sources released a propaganda video claiming they "rescued" crew members, but this remains unverified.
📆 The attack began late on July 7 while the ship was northbound through the Red Sea toward the Suez Canal. According to maritime alerts, the vessel came under continuous fire, including rocket-propelled grenades and multiple small boat assaults. Photos show the hull punctured near the waterline and fire damage to the bridge and superstructure.
🛳 The Eternity C, built in 2012 and operated by Greek company COSMOSHIP, was accused by the Houthis of violating their blockade by trading with Israel. The group claimed responsibility after nearly two days of silence.
👤 This marks the deadliest single incident since Houthi attacks on merchant shipping began in late 2023. Industry groups including ICS, BIMCO, INTERCARGO, and INTERTANKO condemned the assault and called for urgent international protection of civilian crews. IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez stressed the need for intensified diplomatic efforts to ensure maritime safety in the region.
